Study on regulatory framework conditions for hydrogen refueling technologies
On behalf of NOW GmbH and in close cooperation with the Clean Energy Partnership (CEP), Spilett new technologies, LBST, LIFTE H2, ZBT and ZSW have conducted a comprehensive study on the regulatory framework for hydrogen refueling infrastructure. The aim was to develop a sound understanding of the technological, developmental and regulatory challenges of various refueling technologies and refueling paths.
The focus was on the legal basis for research, development and market activation. Relevant technical, normative, legal and safety-related consequences for different filling station concepts were analyzed. In addition to road transport, synergies with rail, inland shipping and aviation were also considered.
For the first time, a comprehensive overview has been provided to show which standards and regulations need to be adapted, where there are regulatory hurdles and where there is need for targeted research and development to enable a safe, verifiable and future-proof refuelling infrastructure.
In this way, the study lays the foundation for a continuously updated compendium that is regularly adapted to new technological and regulatory developments.
LBST was a key partner in this part of the study, entitled ‘Regulation: Status quo and development needs’, which was also part of the overall study ‘Development paths for the hydrogen refuelling infrastructure of the future’ for NOW GmbH.
