H2 Sustainability certification

Certification is a key element for the market ramp-up of hydrogen. It serves to transparently and reliably prove the sustainable production and transport of hydrogen.

Worldwide, different requirements exist and are under development for the sustainable production of hydrogen and derivatives, and for their certification. These requirements are partly defined in legal texts with certification being the basis for the recognition of product quantities according to such regulations. In addition, requirements are defined on a voluntary basis with the aim of providing reliable information to final consumers.

Our experts have supported industry for many years in their activities in this field, and have been actively engaged in the development of such requirements and certification schemes, notably in the project CertifHy.

Requirements for production and export of sustainable hydrogen

Together with ILF Chile, Ludwig-Bölkow Systemtechnik GmbH has conducted a study on the requirements for the production and export of green and sustainable hydrogen on behalf of the German-Chilean Energy Partnership under the direction of the Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). This study was supplemented by a survey with potential off-takers of green hydrogen and derivatives in Germany.
