H2 infrastructure

The transport and distribution of large amounts of energy to end user require a functioning and robust infrastructure. While the conversion of existing natural gas pipelines offers great potential for cost-efficient transport of hydrogen, other alternative transport vectors are also conceivable, depending on distance, quantity and area of application. These include the construction of dedicated H2 pipelines as well as ship, truck and train transport of compressed or liquefied hydrogen and organic carrier media.

Hydrogen study in Nordrhein-Westfalen

The aim of the study was to investigate the factors that require the use of the economic and climate-relevant potential of hydrogen in Nordrhein-Westfalen and in Germany. For this purpose, based on an energy system analysis, the importance of the energy carrier hydrogen in the electricity, heat, transport, and industry sectors of a future energy system was examined in more detail, taking grid restrictions into account.
