The pioneering HyBalance project shows how hydrogen production from electrolysis can balance fluctuations in the electricity grid and renewable energies can be used in industry and mobility.

As one of the first plants in Europe to produce hydrogen on an industrial scale using PEM electrolysis, the HyBalance project has achieved a number of important results.

Operated since 2018 by project partners Air Liquide, Cummins/Hydrogenics, Centrica Energy Trading, LBST, and Hydrogen Valley in Denmark, the plant has so far delivered 120 tonnes of hydrogen. It demonstrated that hydrogen can be used to balance fluctuations in the electricity grid.

As part of the HyBalance project, LBST coordinated the preparation of the project application and was responsible for the environmental assessment during the course of the project.

Further information on the project can be found on the project website.
